Our History
WECC, "the house that women built"
In 1958, members of Thomas Jefferson, Westhampton, and Westwood Junior Woman's Clubs recognized that there was a real need for a meeting place for organizations and community service projects in the West End.
Eighteen young women from the three junior clubs joined together to form The Tri Club Woman's Club, and raised the money needed to build WECC with numerous energetic fund-raising events.
After the building was completed, one of the first projects was to establish a modest lending library in the West End. As you know, we now have the Tuckahoe Public Library and Gayton Library, so our library isn't used as much, but there are still some books upstairs if you would like to use them.
The Board of Directors for the West End Community Center is made up of members of the four clubs.
THE WEST END COMMUNITY CENTER IS A NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION DEVOTED TO PROVIDING A WARM AND WELCOMING PLACE TO MEET FOR OUR FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS.
WECC is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All contributions are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law.
